Week three of the One Room Challenge and that means we are already halfway through it. In today’s post I’m sharing my progress and some thoughts about how even the little things can transform a space. Even if you don’t have the means to fully renovate your home I encourage you to still decorate because it only takes a little effort to create a space you love living in.
This week I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the power of accessories. Not every home decor project needs to be a full gut renovation. Even if Instagram makes DIY renovations seem like a goal that’s worth dreaming about. Sometimes all it takes is some well considered accessorizing to completely change the mood of a space. Of course it also depends on whether the space is in bad or good shape to begin with. But when it comes to condos they tend to be in decent shape like in our case. Without any effort the space looks bland, bare and boring but with a little bit of accessories the mood is already visibly much better.
My to do list is still long and I’m by no means done with this space yet but it’s very encouraging to see the impact that even the smallest changes can make. Normally I wait until the very end of a project to add the accessories as the cherry on top but in this case I decided to take my progress photos with them already included. It might spoil the final reveal as that won’t be a big surprise anymore. But honestly I prefer enjoying the progress more than keeping a big secret until everything is finished.
My goal for this week is to start and hopefully finish the nightstand DIY makeover. The plan is to paint them white and add an oak veneer detail on the drawer front. That should be a fairly easy DIY project so let’s keep our fingers crossed that no problems arise and I can finish it smoothly.
Another goal that I hope I can accomplish soon is putting up the new light fixture. The tricky part with that is finding a way (for Andrew) to climb high enough to reach the ceiling (we have 9ft ceilings, yikes).
- Shelving unit (2xIKEA Billy with DIY top)
- Nightstands: DIY makeover
- DIY art above bed
- Basket wall across from bed
- Install new light fixture
- Window treatments: install curtain rod
- DIY curtains
