It’s time for yet another round of the One Room Challenge and this time I will be transforming the small home office in our one bedroom plus den condo. The den is located right at the entry of our unit. That means it serves a double duty as the entryway as well as our home office. The amount of space is very limited. It might seem impossible to fit an entryway console, a desk with functioning workspaces for two and a bookcase unit for storage in this small den. But they don’t call it One Room Challenge for no reason. Besides, with proper space planning nothing is impossible. I say bring it on, let’s do this!
If you’re new here, welcome! I’m so glad to have you visiting my blog and I really hope you enjoy it. A few quick facts about me: I live in midtown Toronto in a 500 sq ft condo with my significant other Andrew and I’m pretty much obsessed with interior decorating. This blog is all about turning our little condo unit into a home one space at a time. This is my third round of participating in the One Room Challenge and I’ve very much loved it every single time. You can check out my previous ORC reveal here.
We’ve lived in this condo unit for almost a year now and so far the den has mostly functioned as a dumping zone/storage room. We didn’t buy anything new for the den when we moved in. Instead, we opted to make the furniture that we already had work for the time being. But the truth is, it hasn’t really worked well so it’s time to make the den a more functional and a better looking space. You can see from the before photos that it’s actually very crammed, everything is mismatched and there’s only enough desk space for one person.
What I’ve planned for this makeover project:
- Get rid of storage unit & old desk
- Move bookcase to the place of the old desk
- Add new double desk to the place of the old storage unit in the corner
- Get new chairs for the desk
- Add a full length mirror to the back wall to create a more spacious feel
- Build entryway console from old bench
- Create a feature wall behind entryway console using removable wallpaper
