It’s week two of the One Room Challenge and that means it’s time for a progress update again. I have to say not much has happened since last week but there’s still plenty of time left because this round of ORC is actually eight weeks long instead of the usual six.
Don’t forget to also read the week one post if you haven’t already. It includes my plans and before photos of the space.
Ps. the photos in this post are not related to this project specifically – they are my old photos that I used to make this post a bit more visually appealing. More project specific photos coming next week, I promise!
The biggest challenge in this One Room Challenge
This round of ORC poses some extra challenges due to the ongoing Covid restrictions in Ontario where we live. The third wave restrictions are actually more strict than any previous ones have been in the past 18 months. That means we’re not able to go into any non-essential retail stores or even purchase non-essential items from any essential store. The non-essential aisles are completely blocked off in all the stores unfortunately.
These restrictions make purchasing items like lumber or wall paint pretty challenging if not impossible. However, the restrictions are expected to be loosened a bit around mid-June. Basically I’ll have to make a last minute trip to Home Depot once they open to finish off this project. Fingers crossed I can still pull it off successfully!
Week two progress
So far we’ve cleared out the clutter, found a new loving home for our old desk and moved the storage unit to our balcony. I also moved the bookcase to its new spot and the room is already feeling so much more spacious than before. I also got really lucky because I was able to get a full length mirror for free. The only catch is that it has a crack at the bottom but I have a plan in place on how to make it look as good as new. I’ll share more details on that once I’ve tested if the plan actually works. Fingers crossed.
Next week I’ll be able to share some actual progress photos with the new desk and chairs. The plan is to also share more details on the products I chose for the space as well as on the budget. There’s also a DIY project (or two) I’m planning to do. So DIY project details are also in the books for the next week or two.
To do list:
Get rid of storage unit & old desk Move bookcase to the place of the old desk
- Add new double desk to the place of the old storage unit in the corner
- Get new chairs for the desk
- Add a full length mirror to the back wall to create a more spacious feel
- Build entryway console from old bench
- Create a feature wall behind entryway console using removable wallpaper
